Many of our clients considering our environmental and security monitoring devices don’t realize the full potential of utilizing sensor controlled relays for the server room or really anywhere else. Primarily, most would think of pairing motion detectors with a light switch. It’s not only simple and clever, but it has a useful employment. The motion detector sends a motion alert to the sensor controlled relay which then responds to trigger the light.
Here, I compiled a list of strategical applications for sensor controlled relays for server rooms or home:
Security Controlled Relays
- Motion detectorswith a light switch
- These are useful when saving energy, and for offering light outside or where light switches are hard to find.
- Motion detectors with security camera recording
- Set a surveillance camera to turn on or initiate record when a motion is detected. This is more of a pragmatic approach to both reduce insignificant recordings and network traffic.
- Motion detector with siren and strobe light
- Trigger an alarm when the sensor detects motion during after hours or for security breaches to trigger the alarm.
- Security sensor with siren and strobe light
- On the same note, trigger a siren and strobe light alarm when someone opens a door or window during after-office hours or when you’re not home.
Environmental Monitoring Controlled Relays
- Water leak detectorwith a sump pump
- Set a relay for the detection of water which prompts the sump pump to prevent a flood
- Temperature monitorwith an AC unit/ backup air conditioner unit
- With an electric heater
- Humidity sensorwith dehumidifier/ humidifier
- When the humidity observes a humidity level outside the threshold, the relay will bring it back to normal with a humidifier or dehumidifier
- Power monitorwith a backup generator
- In the event of a power outage, relay a signal to a backup generator for power rather than using battery powered operations which will have a shorter lifetime of supplying energy.
- Airflow monitorwith a fan
- If the AC unit fails or the fan breaks, initiate a fan to create air flow in the server room.
- Smoke detector and automated fire suppression
- Design a relay system in which a smoke detector alerts the sensor controlled relay and trips water sprinklers or an automated release of fire suppressive gas for the server room or data center.
These are just a few fashions to set up a sensor controlled relays for security and environmental monitoring for the server room, data center, office or at home. This system is more convenient for administrators that cannot resolve these issues physically.
