Environmental monitoring is essential for crops greenhouses. A few environmental factors are involved in providing crops and greenhouse plants with appropriate environmental conditions for healthy growth.
Environmental Factors in Greenhouses:
Airflow: Airflow is important for two reasons: distribution of temperature and microbes (bacteria, unicellular fungi etc). Having constant airflow helps keep microbes, especially fungi from infecting crops and plant nurseries. Since warm air has the tendency to rise, and cold air tends to fall, temperatures within the greenhouse can be varied. Simple fans placed in thoughtful areas in the greenhouse can mix the temperature of the air for stable temperature conditions.
An airflow monitor is recommended for greenhouses to monitor the integrity of the airflow. If a fan breaks, or there is stagnant air due to lack of ventilation, that could mean unhealthy conditions for plants.
Temperature: In the winter, temperatures in the greenhouse can fluctuate dramatically between bursts of light and cloud cover.
For proper heating, small gas, oil, or electric heaters are adequate. Evaporative coolers and shade materials (paint, netting, roll up wood etc.)
To be sure the temperature is stable within the greenhouse, a temperature monitor is necessary. Dramatic deviance in temperature could damage or kill plants.
