I was talking to one of my co-workers who was telling me about a candy shop that closed because its chocolate had all melted due to the lack of employees monitoring the temperature. He told me that he bought the candy shop from its previous owners who had suffered a huge loss because of the meltdown. This just goes to show the diverse need for environmental monitors to prevent such disasters.
On one winter day it was particularly cold. As customers were coming in and out of the store, heat was quickly leaving the shop. Since the customers and employees were freezing, one of the employees turned up the temperature to 90°F to warm the shop up. As the day went on, less and less customers were coming in and out of the candy store and the little shop was warming up. The employees later closed for the night and went home.
The next morning, employees came in to find all the chocolate in the candy store melted. Melted chocolate covered the floor, counters, the inside of cases, displays—everywhere. The temperature was still set at 90°F. If you know anything about chocolate, the temperature shouldn’t exceed 85°F. The entire stock was ruined, and there was no way to replace or prepare for the holiday season. The store couldn’t afford to stay open.
Since candy shops have a dependency on temperature conditioning, it would have been a good investment to install a temperature monitoring system to avoid complete loss of assets.
